People choose to attend a technical college rather than attend university. Why do you think people make this choice? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

A university education is the goal of many high school students. Some students want to go into a profession that requires a university degree. But there are other professions that do not require a degree, but require certification from a technical college. The reasons why students make decisions to go to technical college instead of university probably have a lot to do with their choice of carrer, their own academic abilities and their financial situation.

First of all, students make their choices for post-secondary education based on the fields that interest them. A student who is interested in medicine might decide to go to university, into a pre-med program to prepare to become a doctor, or they might go to nursing school or a nursing program in a technical college. Some carrer choices offer a choice of educational route. The university route is usually more intense and takes longer, or choose to do the degree program as part of the architactural department at a university. Other career choices involve certification that is available at a college, like broadcast journalism or culinary arts programs for chefs.

A second factor that students consider when making their educational desicions is their own aptitude and academic ability. Some students are more academically inclined and are more interested in practical courses and hands-on training. These students would be more likely to choose a technical college that meet their needs. Either choice would be appropriate for achieving career goals.

The third factor that would affect a student's choice of educational institution is his or her financial situation. Some students do not have access to enough funds ot loans to cover the ecpense of a university education. These students might choose to start their career with the certification they can get at a less expensive technical college. If that training allows them to earn enough money to finace a degree program, they might go on to take the university degree in their field later. Nurses often follow this route.

It is clear that there is more than one reason for a decision about educational choices. Students consider their financial situation as well as their own career ambitious and educational abilities when selecting a post-secondary educational institution.
